I'm always suspicious of animations about people who live their lives vicariously through their pets, and so approached this short cartoon with some sceptiscm. Instead of just getting a series of well drawn "aw, bless" moments, though, we actually get something a little more charming as "Winston" is rescued from a life on the street by a man who feeds him relentlessly. As he grows - upwards and outwards - he provides us with some eyes into the loneliness of the life of his master whom we all end up hoping might meet a girl - ideally the local waitress whom he has taken a shine to. What chance that romance might blossom? Well, that's not really a question we need to ask, instead we just have to sit back and enjoy some canine shenanigans from it's own perspective. Sure, it's not exactly a critique on the foibles of human relationships and in many ways reminds me why I am not a dog lover (what won't they do for food?) but this is still quite an enjoyable and colourful foray into the concepts of friendship, loyalty and the nastiness of vegan food.
