Matchbox the Movie

Check out my full review @ https://movieswetextedabout.com/matchbox-the-movie-movie-review-john-cena-leads-a-fun-practical-ride-that-never-leaves-its-lane/ Rating: B- MATCHBOX THE MOVIE is exactly the film I expected: a formulaic, predictable spy comedy that never tries to be more than what it truly is. The practical, on-location action gives it a real edge over most of its genre, as Sam Hargrave's choreography and kinetic camera work remain as solid as ever. John Cena carries it with ease, doing his own stunts and getting better every time I see him. The cast has genuine chemistry, and even if the characters never go much beyond the surface, a friendship built around those little cars was easy for me to relate to. I had the right amount of fun with it. Not more, not less.

Unleash your inner child with the 17x WWE Champion John Cena along with his group of former childhood friends as they stumbled upon an international plot & save the world based on the popular diecast vehicles from Hasbro.

I can’t quite understand why the whole thing is called ‘Matchbox – The Movie’. The only connection is that a few children are occasionally seen holding a Matchbox car. However, although the protagonists are supposed to be in their early to mid-30s, the actors playing them are easily 15 years older. That doesn’t come across as very credible. As products are repeatedly highlighted in the film, it seems to be a sort of infomercial. I’m feeling a slight urge to order a Leatherman afterwards... All in all, though, it’s a solid action comedy. Just the sort of film you’d expect from John Cena. Not a standout, but an entertaining watch without much depth.
