Hosted by hip-hop superstar Common, ‘Framework’ is a new arc competition series exploring the compelling world of furniture design/construction. It’s not enough to design an eye-catching, unique AND functional piece of furniture, these 13 elite furniture craftsman have to build it too. The clock is ticking and the stakes are sky-high as the last competitor standing will receive an incredible prize package including the ability to launch their own line with a major furniture brand.
I absolutely LOVED the show! I realize it was and to some length still is a very niche audience, but I watched it right when it came out, and I was truly impressed, not by the sidelines, the commentary, and yes, I like Common, the host of this wood-be competition, but no, I was profoundly impressed by the people who participated! it shouldn't have been such an apparently cutthroat competition, but still, the art, the craft, the professionalism, the innovation, creativity, it was in some cases exceptional under those conditions! woodworking is highly appreciated by many of us, and this show was sufficiently realistic to present a synthesis of a woodworker's daily grind. most of us don't realize the complexity of a job, a project, from meeting with clients, anticipating, guiding, optimizing, contributing to the creative process, and planning its flawless execution, sourcing everything, pacing the work, a timeline, pricing, etc., etc., etc.. This show was absolutely delightful! It had potential and could have been continued, should have been continued in perpetuity, in my opinion! You know, several of the exceptionally talented contestants from this fine woodworking and furniture-design competition series, *Framework*, maintain highly active digital footprints where one can watch them build real, tangible, stunning, expertly engineered pieces of functional art, like the professionals they are! Yes, a very niche audience, but high quality woodworking is becoming mainstream FAST! and for the best reasons a human can relate to!
