**Score: 6/10 A Good Premise Buried Under Convoluted Execution** *Poker Face* arrives with an irresistible pedigree. Created by Rian Johnson, fresh off the success of *Knives Out* and *Glass Onion*, and starring Natasha Lyonne, an actress whose entire persona seems purpose-built for a scruffy, wisecracking detective. The premise is genuinely good: Charlie Cale (Lyonne) has an uncanny ability to tell when someone is lying, and she drifts across America in her Plymouth Barracuda, stumbling into murders in a classic "case-of-the-week" structure. It's *Columbo* meets *The Fugitive*, and on paper, it should be a knockout. In practice, it's a frustrating watch. **The Problem: Overcomplicated Setups** Each new story starts with a way too complicated setup before the actual episode kicks into gear. The show adopts a "howcatchem" structure, showing the audience the murder and the killer in the opening act, then letting Charlie unravel the mystery. In theory, this is a clever inversion of the whodunit formula. In practice, the setups are so convoluted, so packed with unnecessary characters and red herrings, that by the time Charlie arrives on the scene, you're already exhausted. The show seems to mistake complexity for cleverness. A great mystery doesn't need a dozen moving parts; it needs a compelling puzzle and a satisfying solution. *Poker Face* too often delivers the former without the latter. **Natasha Lyonne: Doing Her Best** Natasha Lyonne does the best she can with what she is given. She's a genuinely magnetic screen presence funny, vulnerable, and effortlessly cool. Her Charlie is a character you want to spend time with, and Lyonne's performance is the main reason to keep watching. But even she can't elevate material that too often feels like it's spinning its wheels. The supporting cast is a parade of talented actors Adrien Brody, Chloƫ Sevigny, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and more but most are given little to do beyond delivering exposition and looking suspicious. The show's guest-star structure feels like a gimmick rather than an organic part of the storytelling. **The Tone: A Balancing Act That Doesn't Always Land** The show aims for a blend of comedy, drama, and mystery, but the tonal shifts can be jarring. Some episodes are genuinely funny; others are surprisingly dark. The inconsistency makes it hard to settle into the show's rhythm. It's never boring, exactly, but it's also never quite as satisfying as it should be. **The Verdict** *Poker Face* is a show with a great premise and a great star, undone by execution that's far too complicated for its own good. It's watchable, and Lyonne alone makes it worth a look, but it falls far short of its potential. It earns its **6/10** for Lyonne's performance and the occasional flash of the show it could have been. **Watch if:** You're a Natasha Lyonne fan, you love murder mysteries, or you're looking for something undemanding to stream. **Skip if:** You prefer tight, satisfying mysteries or get frustrated by convoluted plotting. This one will test your patience.
